Suryakumar Yadav equaled his senior teammate Virat Kohli’s tally and became the joint-second fastest to score 2000 runs in 56 innings.
India stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav scripted history on Tuesday and became the joint-second fastest player to complete 2000 runs in T20Is. Suryakumar achieved the feat during the second T20I against South Africa at St George’s Park, Gqeberha.

Suryakumar came out to bat in a tricky stage after India lost their openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill early as the duo failed to open their accounts under overcast conditions in Gqeberha.
He needed just 15 runs to reach the 2000-run mark and he didn’t waste much time to reach there.
The flamboyant batter equalled his senior teammate Virat Kohli’s tally and became the joint-second fastest to score 2000 runs in 56 innings. Meanwhile, Pakistan duo Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are at the top of the list as they achieved the feat in 52 innings.

Earlier, South Africa won the toss and sent India in to bat in the second Twenty20 international at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Tuesday.
“We are going to bowl first, been under the covers for most of the day, so I would assume it would move around a bit. Each game becomes important for us to fine tune things before the 2024 T20 WC, hopefully, we can start well today. From my point of view it’s about understanding if someone needs a rest. No debuts today,” Markram said.

India stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav said he was confused about what to choose at the toss and was happy to bat first.
“Very happy to be here and happy to know there’s some cricket around. We were confused what to do, but now we are very happy to bat first. It’s an opportunity for everyone playing this game. World Cup is still 5-6 months away. Just enjoy yourself is the message to the team,” Surya said.
Both teams are missing several key players, who are being rested ahead of a Test series at the end of the tour.
“There is an opportunity for everyone,” said Yadav about prospects for the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and United States in June.
The first match in the three-game series was rained off without a ball bowled in Durban on Sunday.
