Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau has summoned former prime minister Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi and her close friend Farhat Shehzadi for questioning in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case on November 13.

The Al-Qadir Trust corruption case pertains to allegations that PTI chief Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, a spiritual healer from a deeply conservative family, obtained billions of rupees and land worth hundreds of kanals from a real estate firm for legalising PKR 50 billion that was identified and returned to the country by the UK during the previous PTI government. It is one of the two cases Imran Khan is embroiled in, the other one being the Toshakhana case.
Sources told News18 that the NAB is likely to conclude its probe soon and will file reference chargesheet in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case case. According to sources, the NAB is in possession of fresh pieces of evidence against Bushra Bibi that may change her status from witness to accused.

It is alleged that proceeds of wrongdoing were transferred to her extended family and that she stashed 14 billion rupees in more than 100 accounts across Pakistan and Middle East banks.
Imran Khan is facing scores of legal cases on myriad charges, including revealing state secrets, incitement to violence and terrorism. The charges were levelled under the government of Khan’s successor and top rival, former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif, who made way for caretaker prime minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on August 14, 2023.

Pakistan has been in deepening political turmoil since April 2022, when Khan was removed from office in a no-confidence vote in parliament. He was arrested in early August on corruption charges, convicted and sentenced to three years.
In August, Khan was allowed a brief visit by Bushra Bibi, at a high-security prison.
