Ram Temple, Surgical Strikes, Making Modi PM in 2024: How Amit Shah is Doing Heavy-Lifting in MP

Ram Temple is a consistent theme in Amit Shah’s speeches as he cites how Madhya Pradesh will celebrate three Diwalis — the actual festival, on December 3 when BJP wins in the state, and on January 22 next year

“Do you want to make Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister in 2024 again? Then vote for the BJP in MP” — Union home minister Amit Shah goes to the top of the BJP truck in Manpura to tell the crowd that has gathered in his third ‘Rath Sabha’ of the day.

On Saturday, Shah was in the Gwalior-Chambal region of Madhya Pradesh, which is crucial for the BJP.

From announcing the date of the Ram Temple inauguration to mentioning the surgical strikes in Pakistan and explaining how the BJP has stopped terror strikes in India, Shah is doing the heavy-lifting to make his party get the lead in this region, which has become the hub of political activity.

Shah looks at women and tells them that Kamal Nath will stop the money under CM Ladli Behna Yojana if he comes to power. The BJP could win only eight out of the 34 seats in this region in 2018, contributing in a big way to it falling short of the majority mark, behind the Congress.

But the Congress star of this region then, Jyotiraditya Scindia, is now with the BJP. Scindia accompanied Shah from Gwalior to his various public rallies and ‘Rath Sabhas’ on Saturday. He gives a rousing speech before Shah speaks and encourages the crowd to raise slogans while Shah addresses them from the top of the BJP Rath. The BJP is using Scindia’s appeal here to change its fortunes. Shah speaks glowingly of Scindia and his attack is reserved for Rahul Gandhi and Kamal Nath. He refers to them as ‘Rahul Baba’ and ‘Corruption Nath’.

Rahul Baba kehte the ki hum Mandir wahin banayenge but tarikh nahi batayenge. I want to tell Rahul Baba that the temple will be inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on January 22 next year,” Shah says in his every speech during the day.

Ram Temple is a consistent theme in Shah’s speeches as he cites how Madhya Pradesh will celebrate three Diwalis – the actual festival, on December 3 when BJP wins in the state, and on January 22 next year. “Congress kept the matter hanging. But PM Modi has resolved it,” Shah tells the crowd.

From Chandrayaan to double-vaccination against Covid, Shah brings up all in his speeches to ask people if they are proud or not of the country’s achievements under Narendra Modi’s leadership. “Rahul Baba criticised our vaccine but then quietly went and took both shots,” Shah says in a rally in Pichhore, eliciting laughs from the crowd. He is all attention even while sitting inside the BJP Rath, quickly asking his staff to come to the aid of a woman who comes up to his window with an application. His schedule is running late but Shah stops the Rath whenever he sees BJP workers on the road and interacts with them.

Shah did four public rallies on Saturday and travelled over 40 km in the BJP Rath to connect with the people. Before this, he came on a three-day trip to Madhya Pradesh for organisational meetings. The last rally of the day was in Gwalior city where a huge crowd had collected to hear him and Scindia. Shah says it is important that BJP wins Madhya Pradesh as it will strengthen the hands of PM Modi. He again asks the crowd if they want to see Modi as the PM for the third time in 2024. When the crowd said “yes”, he then said a win of BJP in MP is now certain.
