Netflix wants more people to take its affordable ad-tier plan in select markets and these features could make it work.
Netflix continues to shuffle the pack for its users with new features and support being offered to bring more people to the platform. The video streaming giant has shared a new update for users which should be good news for those using the ad-tier plan of Netflix in the countries where it is available.

Netflix says that it will bring download support for its ad-tier plans which wasn’t the case previously. This is a big deal because the ad-tier plan was only offered to cut the expenses for the users but with caveats like no download support or limited screen viewing at a time.
Initially, the ad-tier plan was offering videos at 720p quality which was thankfully upgraded to 1080p because the technology is now allowing that change to happen at a lower cost. Netflix claims these changes will make its ad-tier plan the only one in the market to offer offline viewing, which sounds right.

The good news extends further as Netflix has found a clever way to stop showing ads for the viewers. This is also applicable for those taking the ad-tier Netflix plan which costs $6.99 (Rs 581 approx) per month in markets like the US. Netflix says if you watch three episodes of any show one after the other, the fourth episode in the series will be ad-free.
Giving viewers the option to binge watch and get an ad-free episode sounds like a win-win move as it helps Netflix get more eyeballs on its shows along with screen time, while the most-affordable Netflix plan starts looking like a bargain for the consumers, prompting more people to come on board.

Netflix seems to have picked up a decent tab on the ad-tier plan which now has around 15 million active monthly users globally. And by sweetening the plan with these smart additions could only swell up the subscriber numbers in the next few years. These changes also come at a time when Netflix has increased the prices of the basic and premium plans in various countries.
