Holi Holiday Stock Market- BSE Sensex, NSE Nifty closed on this date for the ‘festival of colours’

Holi Holiday Stock Market: Holi is a celebration across the country and is declared a national holiday. The Indian share markets remain officially closed on the ‘festival of colours’.

However, there seems to be confusion for this year as some parts of India will celebrate Holi on March 7 while others will mark the day on March 8.

According to the information shared on the BSE and NSE websites, both the Indian stock exchanges will remain closed on March 7 this year for Holi. However, a leading stock brokers’ association Anmi (Association of National Exchanges Members of India) has requested the government, Sebi, and exchanges to declare the holiday on March 8, reported Economic Times.

Anmi, in a letter to the finance ministry, Sebi, stock exchanges, and depositories, said that the festival is on March 8 as opposed to the exchange trading holiday declared on March 7.

According to the notification released by the Central Government on June 22 last year, March 8, 2023, has been declared as a public holiday which is applicable for central administrative offices located in Delhi/ New Delhi, reported ET.

Like Anmi, the Commodity Participants Association of India (CPAI) has made also asked the exchanges to either shift the trading holiday for Holi from March 7 to March 8 or declare both dates as trading holidays.

Apart from March 7, the Indian share market will remain closed another day in March which is on 30 March 2023 for Ram Navami.
