As frosty winds continued to whip parts of northern India, including Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Haryana, the mercury dropped to 2.4 degrees Celsius in the national capital on Tuesday as the cold wave made a comeback after a brief respite.
The Safdarjung observatory in Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 2.4 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the mercury stood at 2 degrees Celsius at Lodhi Road, at 2.2 degrees Celsius at Delhi Ridge and at 2.8 degrees Celsius at Ayanagar till 5.30 am on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, bone-chilling weather conditions swept north and northwest India with the minimum temperature settling in the range of one to three degrees Celsius in many parts.
The weather office on Monday said a three-day intense coldwave will bring temperatures down by two more degrees.
COLDWAVE CONDITIONS TO ABATE
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said cold wave conditions will abate from January 19 under the influence of two western disturbances which are likely to affect the region in quick succession.
MERCURY DIPS
In Rajasthan’s Sikar, the mercury dipped to -4.7 degrees Celsius on Monday. Meanwhile, Punjab’s Faridkot shivered at -1 degrees Celsius.
Churu, located near the Thar desert, recorded the season’s lowest minimum temperature of – 2.5 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
With the frigid northwesterly winds from the Himalayas setting in over the plains, it is likely to get even colder in the region in the next two days.
SNOWFALL IN THE UPPER REACHES
Tourists thronged Kufri in Shimla district as the region received fresh snowfall. Other areas in Himachal Pradesh also witnessed snowfall and freezing temperatures.
TRAINS, FLIGHTS DELAYED
According to the Indian Railways, at least 15 trains in the Northern Railway region are running behind schedule due to fog.
Furthermore, several flights have also been delayed at the Delhi airport due to foggy conditions and low visibility.
