As the search for missing people resumed on Monday morning after a plane crashed in the small Himalayan nation, Nepal, rescuers have recovered the black box from the crash site.
“The black box of the crashed plane has been found,” Sher Bath Thakur, a Kathmandu airport official, said.
Data from the black box – a cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder – could prove significant in determining the cause of the accident.

The twin-engine ATR 72 aircraft was flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara, a tourist town, when it crashed while attempting to land at a newly opened airport. Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority said that the plane was carrying 68 passengers, including 15 foreign nationals, as well as four crew members.
According to Kathmandu Post, rescuers have so far retrieved 68 bodies from the debris of the crash, while a search for the remaining four has resumed. Rescue efforts were hampered by the treacherous terrain, and had to eventually be called off at night on Sunday.
The foreigners included five Indians, four Russians, two South Koreans, and one each from Ireland, Australia, Argentina and France.
Of the five Indians, four were from the Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh and went to Nepal on January 13 on holiday.
