Viral video: UP flower seller makes fan-fitted helmet to beat the heat

A flower seller in Uttar Pradesh has come up with an invention which helps him beat the heat while he is at work – a fan-fitted helmet.

Seventy-seven-year-old Lalluram in Lakhimpur Kheri district fitted a small solar panel and a tiny fan on his helmet that he wears when he goes out to sell flowers.

Since he couldn’t afford the items that went into making the helmet, Lalluram borrowed them from other people.

“I had fallen ill and could not afford to buy the items. I got a solar panel from someone, then the portable fan from another and a helmet from another friend,” IANS quoted Lalluram as saying.

The fan is fitted in such a way that it blows cool air directly onto his face.

Lalluram sells flower garlands to customers from door-to-door on a daily basis to earn money to feed his family. People are immediately interested at the sight of this man in a flowing white beard and saffron robes, going around with a twirling mini fan on his helmet.

A video of Lalluram and his invention went viral on Twitter, in which the flower seller could be heard saying that the portable fan gives him relief from the heat.

Many who saw the video hailed it as a case of ‘desi jugaad’. One called it an ingenious invention. Another called it the best of both worlds.

One user said this could be of use in future to farmers and labourers who toil in the sun.

Another user wondered whether the weight of the headgear would make it an uncomfortable experience.
