The very popular tourist destination Fiji has announced easing of travel rules to boost tourism. The country has decided to drop the mandatory COVID-19 test requirements for all international travellers visiting it effective September 5, meaning travellers will no longer be required to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival in Fiji.

Apart from this, no proof of test bookings or proof of COVID-19 test results will be required to board flights to Fiji, whereas the ‘Entry Test Fiji’ portal that was used to pre-book tests, will also be discontinued.
However, one needs to note that those developing any kind of symptom, will be required to undergo COVID-19 testing, and will also be required to self-report on an immigration arrival card. Also, the requirements of purchasing travel insurance and being fully vaccinated will still remain in place until further notice.

Sharing more information on this, CEO of Tourism Fiji Brent Hill stated that the country’s high levels of community-wide vaccine protection, the increasing uptake of booster doses, expansion in vaccination coverage to children, and the lessening caseload have allowed the government to further continue relaxing public health measures.

Fiji travel protocols

Although those travelling to Fiji are no longer required to provide a negative COVID-19 test result to enter the country, it still advises people that they test at home prior to arrival, especially if they develop any symptoms.

Till now, those visiting the island nation were required to undertake a pre-booked Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) a few days after their arrival as part of Fiji’s entry protocols.

Hill further informed that reducing the isolation period to five days will likely assist Fiji’s tourism industry.
