Congress’s Halla Bol Protests: The Congress is holding nationwide protests on price hike and inflation.
India was plunged into darkness in the “Emergency” era, when the nation was being ruled by the Congress, the BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Friday, shortly after Rahul Gandhi concluded a presser where he carried out a no-holds barred attack on the centre. Gandhi’s presser came amid a pan-India protest by his party on inflation.
Right after his press briefing, senior BJP leader RS Prasad gave a point-by-point rebuttal on the Congress’s attacks, as he said that the rival party’s massive demonstrations – amid probe by the Enforcement Directorate in the National Herald case – was meant to intimidate the central probe agencies.
“Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother imposed an emergency in the country. During the Emergency, big journalists were sent to jail. Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother spoke of a committed judiciary. Do you remember anything? You give us the advice of democracy. Is there democracy in your party?” the BJP MP said, dismissing Rahul’s charge that “India is witnessing the death of democracy”.
Ravi Shankar Prasad also alleged that during the takeover of the National Herald newspaper, assets worth ₹5,000 crore were claimed for ₹5 lakh. The National Herald case pertains to the alleged fraud, involving the Gandhis. “Rahul Gandhi ji has told a clear lie today. When the discussion was held in the House two days ago, did the people of Congress participate in it or not? The discussion of inflation and unemployment is an excuse. The reason (for today’s protests) is to scare the ED, threaten and save the family.”
“When inflation is discussed, Rahul Gandhi does not come into the discussion, walks out in the house. Nirmala Sitharaman replied in detail in the house that despite Covid, India’s economy is better than many countries of the world,” he said.
