Jasprit Bumrah is recovering from a “serious” injury and BCCI doesn’t want to risk him at this stage given he could suffer stress fracture of the back.
Jasprit Bumrah will have to wait a little longer before making his return to competitive cricket as the BCCI is being cautious with the fast bowler who is reportedly at a risk of suffering stress fracture of the back. Bumrah injured his lower back midway through the Sydney Test in Australia earlier this year in January and has since been out of action.

He recently started bowling at the BCCI’s Center Of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru but is yet to bowl at full pelt. It was expected that the pacer will join his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians by April 1 but now there’s no set timeline on when he will be available.
“Bumrah’s injury is a bit more serious,” The Times of India quoted a BCCI source as saying. “The medical team wants to ensure he doesn’t suffer a stress fracture. Bumrah himself is being careful.”
As per the report, while Bumrah is clinically fit, the board wants to increase his workload gradually.
Bumrah represents Mumbai Indians in IPL and the franchise will have to wait longer before their star pacer is available for the ongoing season. The five-time champions started their campaign with back-to-back defeats before recording an impressive win over Kolkata Knight Riders at home.
Besides Bumrah, right-arm pacer Akash Deep’s comeback has also been delayed. Akash is also recovering from a back injury.
“He (Bumrah) is bowling at the CoE but it could take longer to get back in full swing. No definite timeline has been set yet, but one hopes he gets back by mid-April. Akash Deep too hopes to get back by April 10,” the source said.

Recently, former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond had warned India against over-bowling Bumrah who he feels is on the verge of a fracture.
“He (Bumrah) had the surgery (in 2023), but he played all that (Australia) Test series, performed unbelievably. At the end of the day, he just bowled too much over a one-month period. And it hasn’t cracked, he hasn’t got a fracture, he is on the borderline of a fracture,” Bond told ESPNCricinfo.
