The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has announced a significant change in the examination schedule for Chartered Accountancy (CA) aspirants. Starting in 2025, the CA Final exams will be conducted three times a year instead of the existing twice-a-year format. This decision aligns with ICAI’s broader initiative to provide students with more opportunities and enhance the flexibility of the examination system.

This development follows a similar move made last year when ICAI decided to conduct the Intermediate and Foundation course exams thrice annually. With the inclusion of the CA Final exams under the new structure, all three levels—Foundation, Intermediate, and Final—will now have equal attempts each year. These exams will be scheduled in January, May, and September, ensuring a more structured and frequent examination cycle for aspirants.

The ICAI emphasised that this change is aimed at aligning India’s CA examination system with global best practices while offering students greater convenience and opportunities. “The 26th Council of the ICAI has taken a historic decision to increase the frequency of the CA Final exam to three times a year. This marks a major step forward in providing students with a more flexible and accessible examination process,” the ICAI stated.
Additionally, the ICAI has also revised the schedule for the Post Qualification Course in Information Systems Audit. Previously conducted in June and December, the Assessment Test for this course will now be held three times a year—in February, June, and October. This change is expected to enhance accessibility for members pursuing this specialized qualification.
These modifications reflect ICAI’s ongoing efforts to modernize the CA examination process, making it more student-friendly and responsive to the evolving needs of the accounting profession.
