Air India, after merging with Vistara, currently operates 53 A320 family aircraft that offer Premium Economy seats.

From April 1, top management (vice presidents and above) will fly in economy class for work-related travel instead of business class. From June 1, this rule will apply to all employees, including CEO Campbell Wilson.
An Air India spokesperson said the airline wants to prioritise customers by keeping business and premium economy seats available for bookings, as per Hindustan Times.

“We are seeing high demand for these seats, and this move shows our focus on customers,” the spokesperson added.
Since Tata took over the airline in January 2022, demand for premium seats has more than doubled. An airline official said that employees will now get a confirmed economy seat for work trips. However, if business or premium economy seats are vacant, staff may be upgraded just before departure.

Air India is increasing its premium seating capacity. After merging with Vistara, it now operates 53 A320 aircraft with premium economy seats. The airline has also introduced 14 new A320Neo aircraft with a three-class layout.
Currently, Air India offers 50,000 premium economy seats per week, which will rise to 65,000 weekly by October after its retrofit programme is completed.
