Ration cardholders must provide proof of their Aadhaar number and ensure it is linked to their ration card. A senior official highlighted that while all ration cards in Delhi are biometric-based smart cards, the mandatory five-year verification process has not been conducted since 2013. As a result, new ration cards could not be issued.

Now, names of deceased individuals and those who hold ration cards solely for address proof will be removed. Additionally, individuals who have secured government jobs or whose income has significantly increased will also have their names deleted. The vacant slots will then be allocated for new ration card applicants.

Currently, Delhi has over 17.41 lakh ration cardholders. This verification process is crucial as the Delhi government plans to launch multiple financial assistance schemes in the near future.

How to Complete Ration Card Verification:

  1. E-KYC via Mobile App: Cardholders can complete their e-verification through the central government’s mobile app, ‘Mera e-KYC.’ If a person is found holding ration cards in two states, their Delhi card will be canceled, making room for pending applications.
  2. Biometric Verification at POS Machines: Cardholders can also verify their identity through biometric authentication at Point of Sale (POS) machines available at government ration shops.
