Govinda has opened up about his struggles in Bollywood, revealing that he once rejected a ₹100 crore film—a decision he deeply regrets.
Govinda has been absent from the big screen for quite some time, but in a recent conversation, he shed light on his career choices, missed opportunities, and the challenges he faced in the film industry. The actor revealed that he once turned down a ₹100 crore film, a decision he deeply regretted, while also claiming that a deliberate effort was made to tarnish his reputation.

Speaking to Mukesh Khanna on his YouTube channel Bheeshm International, Govinda recalled, “When people were writing that I had no work, I had actually refused a ₹100 crore film. I looked at myself in the mirror and even slapped myself for making that choice. I thought, ‘You must be crazy, this money could have secured your future.’ The role was similar to what works in films today.” However, he defended his decision, emphasizing the importance of staying true to oneself. “Being honest with yourself and listening to your inner voice is crucial,” he stated.

The actor also reflected on a difficult phase in his career, alleging that a planned defamation campaign was launched against him. “I went through a phase where I was deliberately targeted and removed from the industry. I understood that an uneducated man like me had entered a world of educated people, and they wanted me out. I didn’t realize the extent they would go to, but conspiracies began. People were even caught outside my house with guns. That period changed me completely,” he revealed.
This isn’t the first time Govinda has spoken about his struggles in the industry. In an earlier interview with The Times of India, he disclosed his financial setbacks, claiming he lost ₹16 crore over the past 14-15 years while facing resistance from the industry. “Some people treated me badly. My films didn’t get theatres, and they tried to end my career—but they didn’t succeed,” he said. When asked if he believed there was a conspiracy against him in Bollywood, he replied, “Yes, of course. As they say, ‘apne bhi paraye ho jaate hain’ (even your own people turn against you). When luck isn’t on your side, even close ones betray you.”
