Re-Registration Fee Hike For 15-Year Old Vehicles To Impact Autos, Taxis, Buses & Trucks Across India

Mumbai: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highway recently increased the fee of re-registration for 15-year-old vehicles across India. This change can affect various types of vehicles like autos, taxis, buses, and trucks. Two-wheelers and four-wheelers will also be affected by the increment in registration fees. The increased fees will put a burden on older vehicles owners which is still in service.

Previously, the fee of re-registration for vehicles older than 15 years was Rs. 8,000 but now it has increased from Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 18,000.

Additionally, the cost of renewing a vehicle’s registration over 20 years would double to Rs 24,000 and Rs 36,000, respectively.

The new rule also focuses on Medium and heavy commercial vehicles like trucks, especially those older than 15 years. Renewing these commercial vehicles would cost Rs 18,000 for large trucks and Rs 12,000 for medium vehicles. The cost rises to Rs 24,000 and Rs 36,000.

No Change for Delhi-NCR, But

Although the changes would affect vehicle owners across the country, they will not apply to those in Delhi-NCR, where a court ruling requires the scrapping of diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol vehicles over 15 years old.

A transport ministry official said, “We have not touched the renewal fees for private vehicles after they complete 15 years. While we have proposed revised fees for 15-year-old commercial vehicles, we have sought to increase the renewal charge for the ones which were registered 20 years back.” As per media reports by the Economic Times.
