Will The Holy Dip Take Place Today?
On the Mauni Amavasya, the devotees were supposed to take part in the Amrit Snan or holy dip at the Sangam Ghat.
However, in the wake of the stampede-like situation, the Amrit Snan was called off by the Akharas earlier in the morning and it was decided that it would take place later when the situation was under control.
Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad President Ravindra Puri said that the ‘Amrit Snan’ will be carried out but on a smaller scale because the crowd has reduced and the ghats have been vacated.
“Due to the excessive crowd, we had put our snan on hold. Now that the crowd has reduced and the ghats meant for our snan are being vacated, so it seems that all Akharas will be able to do snan today… Our processions will be carried out as usual according to our tradition but will be at a smaller scale,” Puri said.
