Dense fog was observed in many parts of Delhi and the minimum temperature dropped to 8.8°C on Wednesday, with visibility dropping to near zero in some areas.
Parts of Delhi witnessed dense fog during the early hours of Wednesday as the minimum temperature dropped to 8.8 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). On Tuesday, the weather department said that the minimum temperature would dip, and by Friday, it is expected to drop to 5 degrees Celsius.

The weather office also predicted clear skies with cold day conditions in isolated places. Smog or moderate fog was also expected in most places with dense fog likely in isolated areas in the morning.
Due to dense fog, visibility in Delhi’s Palam area dropped to 50 metres at 12.00 am on Wednesday. However, it began to improve and was 500 metres at 2.30 pm.
The visibility in the same area dropped to near-zero at 5.30 am today and was recorded at 100 metres at 6.30 am.
Visuals on social media showed dense fog around the Akshardham Temple during the morning hours.
Locals were also seen gathering around bonfires as temperatures dropped.
Meanwhile, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi stood at 326 at 6 am on Wednesday, categorised as ‘very poor’ as per the data of the Central Pollution Control Board.
The AQI in Delhi has been reeling under the ‘very poor’ category for the past few days.
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good,’ 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory,’ 101 and 200 ‘moderate,’ 201 and 300 ‘poor,’ 301 and 400 ‘very poor,’ and 401 and 500 ‘severe.’
