Amid dense fog and light rain in Northern States, including Delhi, several of the flights and trains have been delayed. The dense fog has led to a significant dip in temperature and has also reduced the visibility in these areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday stated that Delhiites might experience light rainfall in upcoming days, and the temperature over the city recorded a maximum temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 7.6 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours.
Delhi Airport, in a passenger advisory, informed the passengers about the disruptions and instructed them to contact the concerned airline for updates in flight information before the journey. “While landings and take-offs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected,” the advisory stated.
Earlier on Thursday, FlightRadar24 informed that the flights of SpiceJet, IndiGo, and Air India were affected as the average delay of flights in the capital city was five minutes for arrival flights and 11 minutes for departure flights. In one of its advisories, SpiceJet clarified that incoming and outgoing flights in Amritsar and Guwahati “may get affected” due to the poor weather conditions. The airline further urged the passengers to stay updated.
The airline also changed the flight schedules for Srinagar and Chandigarh due to the poor weather. It advised the passengers in Delhi, Bengaluru, and Lucknow to go through the flight status due to heavy fog in these cities. “Please allow extra time when travelling to the airport, as reduced visibility might affect vehicle movement,” the advisory added. Air India also issued a similar advisory, requesting the passengers to stay updated about the timings of their flights.
Apart from the flight services, train services also got affected due to the bad weather. The IMD has issued a warning for dense fog for several states, including Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana. Several cities like Lucknow, Bengaluru, Amritsar, and Guwahati are also expected to face fog in the upcoming days.
