Delhi Power Bill Reduced: Electricity surcharges applied by the Delhi Regulatory Electricity Commission (DERC) have been reduced, as per an order dated December 20. Delhi residents can look forward to lower electricity bills as the Power Purchase Adjustment Charges (PPAC) have been significantly reduced. The Delhi government stated that the drastic cut in PPAC would provide much-needed relief to all consumers.
Discom officials said the earlier (September) PPAC (Power Purchase Adjustment Cost) of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) was 37.88 per cent, BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) 37.75 per cent and BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) 35.83 per cent.
The revised PPAC (December) is 20.52 per cent for TPDDL, 13.63 per cent for BYPL and 18.19 per cent for BRPL, they said. “This will lead to a significant cut in monthly electricity bills of consumers,” an official stated, as quoted by an Indian Express report.

Delhi Power Bill Reduced
The PPAC is a surcharge added to electricity bills to account for changes in the cost of purchasing power and enables electricity DISCOMs to recover additional costs arising from unpredictable factors such as fuel price fluctuations, transmission charges, or other market and weather-related conditions that cannot be accurately forecast during annual tariff planning. DISCOMs levy PPAC to adjust for any surges in costs.
Taking credit, the BJP Delhi unit said, “The ongoing struggle of the Delhi BJP since April has borne fruit. The Delhi Energy Secretary has declared a more than 50% reduction in PPAC charges, providing significant relief to consumers.”

On the other hand, Chief Minister Atishi, who also holds the Power portfolio, stated that this was made possible due to the “honest, people-centric governance of the Aam Aadmi Party.”
“It is only through proper management of the power supply chain and pre-planning that the Delhi government has been able to achieve this,” Atishi said.
