Maharashtra government has already released the official list of public holidays for the year 2025; Full list

As the country gears up to welcome the New Year, individuals have been looking forward to planning long breaks in line with the paid holidays announced by the government. Speaking of which, the Maharashtra government has already released the official list of public holidays for the year 2025, providing adequate clarity on the days when there will be a statewide holiday for all. The annual announcement serves as a reference for public institutions, private organisations, and also individuals who have been planning their schedules for the upcoming year.

In a notification released on December 4, 2024, the Maharashtra government has designated the holidays to offer specific day-offs throughout the year as specially authorised by the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881. The notification includes a total of 24 public holidays followed by an additional holiday for Bhaubeej.

While there are 24 public leaves for the year 2025, the government has announced an additional holiday for Bhaubeej on October 23, 2025 (Thursday), thus bringing the total number to 25. However, the October 23 leave will be implemented for State government offices, State public sector undertakings, Municipal corporations, Municipal councils, Nagar panchayats, Zilla parishads, Panchayat samitis, and Village panchayats.

The government has also instructed banks to observe a holiday on April 1, 2024, for the sole purpose of closing their annual accounts. All the other government offices will remain exempted from this holiday.
