Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday met the stakeholders and experts from export, trade and industry sectors, in New Delhi, to discuss the upcoming Budget. The Union Budget 2025-26, which will be the eight consecutive Budget to be presented by Sitharaman, will be tabled in Parliament on February 1.

“Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman chairs the fourth Pre-Budget Consultation with the stakeholders and experts from export, trade and industry sectors in connection with the upcoming Union Budget 2025-26, in New Delhi, today,” the Ministry of Finance said in a post on X.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary; Finance Secretary and DIPAM Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey; Economic Affairs Secretary Ajay Seth; and Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal. Chief Economic Adviser V Anantha Nageswaran also attended the meeting.

On Tuesday, PM Narendra Modi also met a group of economists and sector experts under the theme ‘Sustaining India’s growth momentum amid global uncertainty’, to discuss the strategy and key points for the upcoming Budget. The prime minister discussed topics ranging from job creations, long-term growth towards Viksit Bharat, increasing farm productivity, and tackling geopolitical crises.

During the meeting, PM Modi said a developed nation needs a fundamental shift in mindset, with a focus on making India a developed country by 2047. Among the economists present in the meeting were Ashok Gulati, D K Joshi, Surjit Bhalla, Janmejaya Sinha, Soumya Kanti Ghosh, and Amita Batra, among others.
