Weather Update: No relief from cold wave in Northwest India till Dec 26; Heavy rainfall likely in THESE regions

Isolated areas of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana are expected to have dense fog during the late-night hours on December 19.

The India Meteorological Department has informed that there will be no respite from cold wave conditions in Northwest India for the next five to seven days, impacting several states significantly. On the contrary, a well-marked low-pressure area has been formed currently over the southwest Bay of Bengal because of which heavy showers are expected to occur over Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema. Meanwhile, an orange alert for very heavy spells has been issued for Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam while a yellow alert for intense showers is declared for Rayalaseema.

Cold Wave Warning

As per IMD’s latest notification, severe cold wave conditions will continue to engulf Himachal Pradesh from December 19 to December 22, East Rajasthan is likely to witness it from December 19 to December 21. West Rajasthan will face it from December 20 to December 21. Similar weather patterns will be prevalent in Punjab from December 19 to December 22. Extreme cold wave conditions will likely spread its coverage over Jammu-Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, Gilgit, and Baltistan from next week. Moreover, Himachal Pradesh and East Rajasthan may experience it on December 23 and December 24.

Dense Fog Alert

Isolated areas of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana are expected to have dense fog during the late-night hours on December 19. Likewise, Jharkhand and East Rajasthan may witness it on December 20 and December 21. Ground frost has also been forecast to take place over East Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh from December 19 to December 22.

Heavy Rainfall Prediction

The Met Department has warned that there might be isolated intense downpours in Coastal Andhra Pradesh from December 19 to December 20. Meanwhile, Rayalaseema is predicted to get it on December 19.

Delhi/NCR Weather Forecast

‘The national capital is expected to have a clear sky along with southwest winds speed at 4 kmph during the morning time. Dense fog is likely to present in the mornings along with mild fog and smog during the evening and night time. Maximum temperatures in the Delhi/NCR regions are likely to be 23 degrees Celsius and the minimum will be at 7 degrees Celsius.
