Delhi Police launches special evening courts to resolve pending traffic challans- Here’s all you need to know

The Delhi Police has announced the introduction of Special Evening Courts from December 20, 2024, to address pending traffic challans. These sessions will operate in various district courts across the city and aim to provide motorists with an opportunity to settle their challans conveniently.

Key Details of the Special Evening Courts

The evening court sessions will be held on all working days from 5 pm to 7 pm at Dwarka Court, Karkardooma Court, Patiala House Court, Rohini Court, Rouse Avenue Court, Saket Court, and Tis Hazari Court. 

Motorists with challans issued until December 31, 2021, will be eligible to resolve their cases during these sessions.

Process for Motorists

  1. Challan Information Access:Starting December 16, 2024, motorists can access an online portal to download their challan details. By entering their vehicle information, they can check for pending challans.
  2. Selection and Resolution:Motorists can select up to five challans per day for resolution in court.
  3. Court Date Allocation:Those with challans issued in Delhi, irrespective of their vehicle’s registration state, can get a date for settlement in these special sessions.

Types of Cases Addressed

The focus of these sessions will be on minor traffic violations, such as not wearing seatbelts, riding without a helmet, and jumping traffic signals.

According to Dinesh Kumar Gupta, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), this initiative aims to streamline the resolution of old traffic violations.

Opportunity for Waivers or Reductions

These sessions also present an opportunity for motorists to have their challans waived off or reduced. Judges presiding over the cases will consider individual circumstances when deciding penalties, offering relief to violators in applicable cases.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Delhi Police encouraged citizens to utilise this initiative: “Special Evening Courts for settling pending Traffic Challans to be held from 20th December 2024, in District Courts of Delhi on all working days of Courts from 5 pm to 7 pm. The link for downloading challan prints will open from 16th December 2024. Avail this opportunity to get cleared pending challans.”

This move by the Delhi Police is expected to not only ease the backlog of unresolved traffic violations but also provide a convenient way for motorists to resolve their issues without disrupting their daily schedules.
