The tensions in the Parliament continued to escalate since the Treasury and Opposition benches both conducted protests.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur, on Thursday, announced that the party had filed a police complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of assault and incitement. Thakur said the complaint was filed with the Delhi Police under various sections, including 109 (attempt to murder), 115 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 117, 125, 131, and 351. Thakur explained that the complaint stemmed from an incident outside Makar Dwar, where NDA MPs were protesting peacefully.

The BJP’s allegations followed an incident earlier that day during a protest outside Parliament by both the NDA and INDIA bloc parties, which resulted in a scuffle and injuries to two BJP MPs, Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput. Both MPs were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi. According to the hospital’s medical superintendent, both Sarangi and Rajput suffered head injuries and were admitted to the ICU. Sarangi had an injury in the head where his skull was cut deep with severe bleeding, and Rajput who was unconscious initially was said to have regained consciousness, but he was still dizzily feeling and suffering from hypertension.
Earlier in the day, Thakur also targeted Congress, alleging that the Nehru-Gandhi family had disrespected BR Ambedkar. Thakur argued that Jawaharlal Nehru had plotted against Ambedkar, leading to his losses in elections and his eventual political retirement. He also attacked the Congress for not giving Ambedkar the Bharat Ratna when it was in power, despite the family saying they held him in utmost reverence.
BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj also joined the fray, accusing Congress of “murdering democracy” and using Ambedkar’s name for political gain. She pointed to the Congress’s flip-flop on the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, an action carried out by the Modi government in 2019. She said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recognition of Ambedkar’s contributions through initiatives like Panchteerth was in stark contrast to the Congress’s actions.
The tensions in the Parliament continued to escalate since the Treasury and Opposition benches both conducted protests. BJP MPs protested against Congress for they had allegedly insulted Ambedkar, while Opposition MPs, led by Rahul Gandhi, demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over remarks he made concerning Ambedkar. This controversy has surfaced after Shah’s comments inside the Rajya Sabha prompted protests by opposition members.
