‘Free Healthcare For All Above 60’: Arvind Kejriwal’s Promise To Delhi Ahead Of 2025 Elections

AAP poll promise for Delhi election: Termed as Sanjeevani Yojana, Arvind Kejriwal said the registration will start in a day or two, but the scheme will be launched after the polls and he is re-elected as the CM

Less than a week after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) promised Rs 2,100 for every woman in Delhi if re-elected in 2025, party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced another post-poll promise — free medical treatment to each senior citizen in the national capital without limitation on cost or economic class.

Termed as Sanjeevani Yojana, the scheme will cover all elders in the city, with free treatment in both private and public hospitals. All costs of medical treatment for these senior citizens will be borne by the AAP government, should they be re-elected in the 2025 polls.

Making the announcement, Kejriwal said the registration will start in a day or two, but the scheme will be launched after the assembly polls are over and he is re-elected as the chief minister.

“All those who are above the age of 60 years will be given free healthcare. This will be in both government and private hospitals. There will be no financial cap for the scheme and no eligibility requirement for economic class. This scheme will be launched after elections,” he said.

On the registration, he said that it will be done door-to-door by volunteers.

“You don’t have to go anywhere for the registration. Our volunteers will come to your home and give you a card. Post elections, the scheme will be cleared. Your son will take care of you at this age,” he said.

Kejriwal said the biggest fear in old age is who will take care of us. “We have seen that even in well-to-do families, elders are ignored and no one is there to take care of them. Your son is here,” Kejriwal added.

He also called the scheme the first of its kind announcement in the history of India. “You served the country and worked for the upliftment of your family, society and the country. Now, as your children, it is our duty that we take care of you at this age,” he added.

Speaking about the Mukhya Mantri Teerth Yatra Yojna of his government, Kejriwal said more than one lakh elders have taken advantage of the scheme. “We pick you up from your home and drop you back and all the expenses in between are taken care of by the Delhi government,” he said.

The city will go to the polls in the next few weeks as the term of the current assembly will end in February.
