Union Law Minister Meghwal will present The Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill and The Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill in the Lower House.
On Thursday, the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took a major step toward implementing its “one nation, one election” plan by approving the constitutional amendment bill, which aims to hold simultaneous Lok Sabha and state assembly elections.

In addition to the amendment bill, the Cabinet also approved two draft laws, one of which seeks to amend provisions in laws for three Union territories with legislative assemblies, to align them with the proposed changes in the Constitution.

While a committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind had suggested holding municipal and panchayat elections alongside the national and state polls in phases, the Cabinet has decided to postpone any action on local body elections for now.
