Weather Today: IMD warns of dense fog in Delhi-NCR, heavy rain in Puducherry

The weather across the country has taken a dramatic turn, with severe cold gripping most regions. Amidst this chill, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of dense fog over Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and neighboring areas for the next two days. The dense fog is expected to reduce visibility significantly, impacting daily life and transportation.

In Puducherry, heavy rains have caused widespread disruption. In response to the deluge, Puducherry’s Education Minister Namachivayam announced that all schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal would remain closed on December 13. The incessant rains have brought normal life to a standstill, with waterlogging and traffic snarls adding to the residents’ woes.

The IMD has also alerted citizens to an impending sharp drop in temperatures across several northern states, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Western Uttar Pradesh. A cold wave is likely to intensify in these regions, with minimum temperatures plummeting further. Delhi has already recorded a minimum temperature of 4.5 degrees Celsius, marking one of the coldest days of the season.

The chilling impact of snowfall in the northern hills is being felt in the plains, as frost has begun to form in several areas. States like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are experiencing biting cold conditions, with temperatures dipping consistently.
