In Uttarakhand’s Dehradun, an unmarked speed breaker, which was meant to prevent over-speeding and accidents, is turning out to be a nightmare for many commuters as it lacks proper markings to alert drivers. Multiple videos of the speed breaker causing trouble to two-wheelers and cars in the city have gone viral. In one such video, people can see a scooter going a normal speed ending up skidding over the speed break, while sending the rider flying off the vehicle. Later on, the rider gets up and looks seemingly unharmed by the incident as he rides away.

The speed breaker is present near the Clock Tower in Dehradun’s Smart City area, while local people have alleged that it has been a leading cause to accidents on a daily basis.
At least seven accidents have occurred due to this speed breaker in just half-an-hour, while a child was also injured, Congress’ Garima Mehra Dasauni alleged on X.

“Looking at the rise in road accidents, the government and administration took the initiative to build speed breakers and zebra-crossings at various places. But see the height of insensitivity and negligence that speed breakers have been made like ‘mountains’ which are proving to be deadly and dangerous,” Dasauni wrote on X.
As per reports, one of the major reasons behind the accidents is the design flaws of the speed breaker, which apart from being poorly marked is also excessively high, thereby making it a challenging task for four-wheelers to navigate. Due to lack of proper signage and markings, daily commuters are finding it difficult to anticipate the speed breaker well in advance.
However, this is not the first time when speed breakers-led related accidents have gained significant attention on social media.
Earlier in October, a video of a speeding BMW soaring over a newly laid speed breaker went viral. The video was from Gurugram’s Golf Course Road. It showed the car literally going off the ground for little over a second and thereafter landing several feet away from the point of impact.
Soon after, the video showed two trucks also getting severely impacted by the unmarked speed breaker. After backlash, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) later installed a cautionary signboard on the location that read, “Speed Breaker Ahead”. The speed breaker was also marked with thermoplastic white paint.
