Acting on the bank’s complaint, the Mumbai Police launched an investigation and filed a case against an unknown individual at the Mata Ramabai Marg (MRA Marg) police station.
The Zone 1 DCP of the Mumbai Police said, “A threatening email was received on the official website of Reserve Bank of India. The email was in Russian language, warned to blow up the bank. A case has been registered against unknown accused in Mata Ramabai Marg (MRA Marg) police station. Investigation into the matter is underway.”

Sources claimed that the Mumbai Police officials are investigating whether a VPN connection was used to send the email to mask the real IP address and location.
It comes a few days after new RBI Governor, Sanjay Malhotra took charge as the 26th Governor of the Reserve Bank, replacing Shaktikanta Das who demitted office after six years.

Malhotra, an IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, was selected by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a similar incident, at least six schools in Delhi received a bomb threat by mail on Friday morning, prompting a multi-agency search of the school premises. The latest threats come on the back of at least 44 schools receiving similar emails on December 9. Police had declared those threats as hoaxes.
