Jaiswal, who has 1280 runs to his name in 12 Tests played so far in 2024, needs 283 runs more to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most Test runs for India in a calendar year.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was on fire for India in the second innings of the first Test played against Australia at Optus Stadium in Perth from November 22 to 25. The 22-year-old left-handed batter opened the innings for the Indian team and scored 161 runs. During his stay at the crease, Jaiswal faced 297 balls and hammered 15 fours and 3 sixes. He added 201 runs for the first wicket with KL Rahul (77), who opened for the visitors in the absence of Rohit Sharma.
For his super show with the bat in the series opener, Jaiswal earned a lot of praise from fans, experts, and former greats of the bat around the world. The youngster, who has travelled to Australia for the first time in his career, now would like to maintain his red-hot form in the second Test as well, which starts on Friday (December 6) in Adelaide.
During the second Test at Adelaide Oval, Jaiswal, who made his Test debut for India last year in July, will have a chance to break legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s world record of scoring the most Test runs for India in a calendar year. Jaiswal has 1280 runs to his name in 12 Tests played so far. He needs 283 runs more to go past Tendulkar’s tally.
Tendulkar amassed a total of 1562 runs in 14 Tests for India played in 2010. The overall record of scoring most runs in a calendar year in Tests is in the name of former Pakistani batter Mohammad Yousuf, who scored 1788 runs in 11 Tests played in 2006.

No. 2 Test batter
Jaiswal’s super show with the bat in the first Test against Australia helped him move to a career-best No. 2 position in the ICC Test batter’s ranking. If he manages to produce good performances in the remaining four Tests of the series as well, then there is a high possibility that he will pip Joe Root and take the No. 1 position.
