WPL 2025: When and where will the Women’s Premier League auction take place, know how much purse amount has increased

New Delhi: A big news has come about the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025. According to a report published by Cricbuzz, the auction for WPL 2025 is scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on December 15. Each franchise will have a purse of 15 crore, which has been increased to 15 crore from last year’s amount of 13.5 crore. Now all the franchises will have a chance to build a good team.

England captain Heather Knight, New Zealand fast bowler Lee Tahuhu and Caribbean all-rounder Deandra Dotting are some of the top names who will be involved in the auction. Other notable Indian names participating in the auction include all-rounder Sneh Rana, leg-spinner Poonam Yadav and batsman Veda Krishnamurthy.

Meg Lanning-led Delhi Capitals will come into the auction room with the smallest purse of 2.5 crore. Gujarat Giants will have 4.4 crore to rebuild their squad after releasing seven players ahead of the auction. Defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have also released seven players and will enter the auction with a purse of 3.25 crore.

All the matches of the inaugural edition of the WPL were held in Mumbai, while the second season saw 22 matches played between Bengaluru and New Delhi. The BCCI is planning to introduce new venues, while teams are keen to keep the home-and-away format in the tournament. The third edition of the tournament will likely be played in February- March 2025. Mumbai Indians won the inaugural edition of the tournament, while RCB emerged victorious last year.

Following the retentions, Gujarat Giants have the maximum purse of INR 4.4 crore with four slots to fill. The BCCI is yet to inform about the window for the 22-match tournament but it is expected to be between February-March. Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the defending champions.
