The government has clarified that a daughter’s name will remain on the family list of a Central Govt pensioner, with eligibility for family pension decided after the pensioner’s death.

Pension Rules for Central Government Employees: In a recent clarification, the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoP&PW) has issued new guidelines regarding the inclusion of a daughter’s name in the family details of a central government pensioner.

The clarification, issued last month, ensures that a daughter’s name will remain part of the pensioner’s family details, with eligibility for family pension to be determined after the pensioner’s death, as per the existing rules.

The DoP&PW has clarified that under the new Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 2021, pensioners must submit family details, including the names of their spouse, children, parents, and disabled siblings, when they enter government service and again before retirement. These details are submitted in Form 4 to the head of the office.

The clarification came in response to questions about the deletion of a daughter’s name from the family details after a government servant retires. The department confirmed that the daughter’s name should not be removed from the family list once it has been included.

The government also emphasised that while a daughter may not be eligible for family pension, she is still considered a member of the pensioner’s family. The eligibility for family pension will be determined after the pensioner’s death, according to the existing rules.

Ministries and departments have been asked to ensure that these rules are communicated to all personnel handling pension-related matters to ensure compliance.
