The Maharashtra government has announced a state-wide public holiday on Wednesday to facilitate maximum voter turnout for the assembly elections. Voting is taking place for all 288 assembly seats in a single day. The contest is primarily between the ruling Mahayuti alliance (BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP) and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition (Congress, Shiv Sena UBT, and NCP SP).
What’s Open and Closed on Election Day
Public Transport: Public transport, including Mumbai Metro and BEST buses, will operate as usual, running until midnight to ensure convenient travel for voters.
Hospitals and Emergency Services: Hospitals, pharmacies, and ambulance services will remain operational throughout the day.

Educational Institutions: Schools, colleges, and other educational institutions across Maharashtra will remain closed to allow staff and eligible students to vote.
Government and Private Offices: All government offices will be closed. Private companies in Mumbai have granted employees a paid holiday to encourage participation in the voting process.
Banks: Public and private sector banks across the state will remain closed, although online banking services and ATMs will continue to function.
Stock Markets: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain shut for the day, resuming trading activities on Thursday.
Liquor Shops: Alcohol sales will be prohibited as per standard election protocol, with liquor shops remaining closed for the day.
