New Rule For Central Government Employees: After a recent development, all employees who retire from central government offices will now have to fill out pension form 6-A to receive their pension and the only way to fill out this form online is through Bhavishya or the e-HRMS 2.0 portal. The new rule on pension procedures came into effect on November 6, 2024. Hard copies of applications submitted by employees retiring from government employment will no longer be accepted, said the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, The Government of India’s Pension and Pensioners Welfare Department said in a notification.
Pension application forms were previously completed on paper, but now employees retiring from central government jobs must submit their pension applications online. This new rule is part of a major move to digitize government processes.

What is Pension Form 6-A
A simplified pension form 6A has been prepared for the convenience of retiring personnel, combining Form Six, Eight, Four, Three, A, Format 1, Format 9, FMA and Zero Option Form. To do this pension rules 53, 57, 58, 59, and 60 of the CCS have been amended. This amendment has been notified after the advice of all the parties like Department of Expenditure, Department of Law and Justice, Controller General of Accounts, Comptroller and Auditor General of India, and Department of Personnel and Training.
This pension form 6A has been integrated into the ‘Bhavishya’ or e-HRMS portal for employees retiring from central government jobs. The ‘Bhavishya’ portal is an initiative of the Pension and Pensioners Welfare Department. Under this, efforts are being made to ensure that retiring government employees receive all pending payments and pension payment orders on the day of retirement itself.
Government to train employees
It has been available to personnel retiring from central government employment since November 16. A notification for this was issued on November 4, 2024. These online portals have been established to make the pension process more efficient and easier. As part of this change, the concerned authorities will be trained to run the pension process seamlessly.
These training sessions will assist office heads and nodal officers in understanding how to use the new system. The training curriculum will be made available soon. It has been instructed to all government ministries and departments to ensure that this new rule reaches all employees and that everyone follows the new process for pension claims.
