Day after quitting AAP, ex-Delhi minister Kailash Gahlot joins BJP

After joining BJP, Kailash Gahlot said, “Some people must be thinking that this decision was taken overnight and under someone’s pressure. I want to tell them that I have never done anything under anyone’s pressure till date…I am hearing that an attempt is being made to build a narrative that it was done under the pressure of ED and CBI but all this is wrong…”

Gahlot had quit the AAP on Sunday. In his resignation letter addressed to Arvind Kejriwal, he cited unfulfilled promises and recent controversies as the reason for quitting the party.

He pointed to the unfulfilled pledge to clean the Yamuna River, describing it as a commitment the party had made to voters. “We promised the people a cleaner Yamuna, but we have failed to deliver on that commitment,” he wrote.

He also mentioned the controversy over Arvind Kejriwal’s new official residence. “There are several embarrassing and bizarre issues like Sheeshmahal, which have now led people to question whether we still believe in being the party of the common man,” he said.

Earlier on Monday, on being asked if former AAP leader Kailash Gahlot is joining BJP today, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal says “He is free, he can go wherever he wants…”

Gahlot, the MLA from Najafgarh and a former aide of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, resigned from the council of ministers. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi later accepted his resignation.

Moments after Gahlot joined the saffron camp, the AAP in an official statement said that AAP leader Raghuvinder Shokeen will be the new minister in the Delhi cabinet. “Raghuvinder Shokeen is an MLA from Nangloi Jat. He will become minister from the vacant position after Kailash Gahlot’s resignation,” AAP stated, ANI reported.
