Star England pacer Jofra Archer wasn’t included in the list of 574 players shortlisted for the IPL 2025 mega auction, which is set to take place in Jeddah on November 24 and 25. Archer, who has played for the Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians in the past, was the notable absentee, and many fans were surprised by his exclusion. But according to a latest report in Cricbuzz, the 29-year-old pacer was missing from the list of players who are set to go under the hammer because he wasn’t available for the 2025 season.

It has been reported that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) wants Archer to stay fit for the summer Tests next year.

England will face India in a five-match Test series next year. The series opener is scheduled to take place in Leeds from June 20, and the next four matches will be played in Birmingham (July 2-6), Lord’s (July 10-14), Manchester (July 23-27), and The Oval (July 31-August 4).

Archer, who missed the 2022 and 2024 editions of the IPL due to fitness-related issues, was associated with MI in 2023, but he only played a few matches before being ruled out of the season due to injury.

The right-arm fast bowler made his IPL debut in 2018 for the Rajasthan Royals and joined MI in the 2022 mega auction. He has played a total of 40 matches in IPL so far and has picked up 48 wickets apart from scoring 199 runs with the bat. His best performances in the cash-rich league came during the 2020 season, which was played entirely in the UAE.

In 14 matches of IPL 2020, Archer picked up 20 wickets and won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season award.

Archer has played 13 Tests, 27 ODIs, and 28 T20Is for England since making his international debut on May 3, 2019, during an ODI match against Ireland in Dublin. He was part of the English team that won the ODI World Cup title in 2019. In the final match, he bowled the super over and successfully managed to defend the target of 16 runs, which sealed a famous win for the Eoin Morgan-led side.
