Noida International Airport under construction in Jewar, Greater Noida, began its aircraft testing operations on November 15, 2024. Planes will start landing on the newly constructed runway. The exercise is a part of the rigorous testing phase which will continue through mid-December. The new airport is taking all the important steps and conducting all the required tests required prior to April 25, 2025, when the airport will be open for commercial operation. The foundation stone of Noida International Airport was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2021.

Here are some interesting facts about the new airport
- Spread across an area of 1,334 acres, Noida International Airport is touted to be the largest airport in Asia.
- The runway is 3.9 km long and 60 meters wide.
- The Jewar airport is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Private limited, which is a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, Switzerland.
- The entry point of the airport terminal is inspired by the Ghats of Varanasi.
- It has six runways, twice the number of Indira Gandhi International Airport.
- The first flights from the International Airport will head to Singapore and Dubai.
- The airport has already partnered with the likes of Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines, and have already been finalised the inaugural routes.
- The ticket bookings for the first flights will begin in January 2025, 90 days prior to the first flight.

An Economic Boom
Noida International Airport is expected to have a significantly positive impact on the region’s economy. It will create thousands of jobs, improve connectivity, which wil also help boost tourism. Once fully operational in April 2025, it will serve as a key transportation hub for Noida and areas beyond. It will also help alleviate traffic from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport.
