Swiggy Hiring Amazon, Flipkart Executives To Strengthen Its Hold On E-Commerce Market: Report

Food delivery company Swiggy has been hiring more and more executives from e-commerce firms like Amazon and Flipkart as the company plans to expand its businesses and diversify its revenue streams. 

Nearly a dozen senior executives from these e-commerce companies have joined Swiggy lately, reported Moneycontrol. In the last four months or so, the food delivery firm brought on Shalabh Shrivastava, former VP at Flipkart as the SVP of Driver Org at Swiggy

Additionally, other senior employees like Hari Kumar G, former VP at Flipkart, Amitesh Jha, former SVP at Flipkart, among others have been hired by Swiggy in higher roles.

The report pointed out that Swiggy has particularly hired executives who have experience in non-grocery roles as the company tries to expand assortment and looks into adding high-value categories to enhance its profitability.

The company is also trying to boost its average order values (AOVs). In an interview with the media agency, Sriharsha Majety, CEO and Co-founder, Swiggy Group, said, “We are going into a world where the category is changing. It was grocery alone, but it started to become grocery plus non-grocery. One advantage is that e-commerce has very deep categories. They have created a very strong talent pool over 16 years with the journey of e-commerce. There is a whole strong set of operators who have done category management of this type.”

The report pointed out that Swiggy has not only focused on senior roles, but also brought in individuals at junior and mid-level positions from these other firms. Typically, Swiggy goes after employees in Flipkart, but it has also gone after Amazon employees.

The company recruited Anirban Roy as its VP from Amazon who headed Performance Marketing in the latter. These executives are provided a raise of nearly 50 per cent to switch jobs making the offer even more attractive.
