The first day of Chhath is called Nahay Khay. On this day, the devotees take a holy bath in a river or nearby water bodies. Women, who perform the rituals, consume a single meal on this day.
The second day of Chhath is referred to as Kharna. On this day, fasting without water is undertaken from sunrise to sunset. During Chhath Puja celebrations, offering of ‘Arghya’ to the setting sun is one of the important rituals.

On the third day of Chhath Puja, a complete day of fasting without water is observed. The day’s principal ritual is to offer Arghya to the setting sun, also known as Sandhya Arghya. It is the only time of year when Arghya is dedicated to the setting sun. The third day of fasting continues into the night.
On the fourth and last day of Chhath, Arghya is presented to the rising sun, known as Usha Arghya. The 36-hour fast is broken after giving Arghya to the Sun.
Chhath Puja is also known as Surya Shashti, Chhath, Chhathi, Chhath Parv, Dala Puja and Dala Chhath.
