Police received a distress call of tenants following which a team rushed to the spot and took the bodies in their possession. Later the bodies were sent for autopsy.

The accused’s mother told police that her son and his wife were having a dispute over an issue.

Varanasi’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Gaurav Banswal said that a police team is probing the case from all angles.

“We received inputs about the murder of four members of the same family by shooting. We are investigating the case from several angles, including family dispute, black magic and others,” Bansal said.

DCP Bansal also informed that another police team is separately investigating whether Rajendra was murdered or he committed suicide.

“Rajendra Gupta’s body has also been recovered from Varanasi’s and a separate investigation is being done to find out whether he was murdered or he died by suicide,” Banswal said.

Rajendra, who had been under the cloud of a murder charge since 1997, was out on bail, as per the Deputy Commissioner of Police’s statement.
