Chhath Puja, a popular Hindu festival, will be observed for four days starting November 5. It is dedicated to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya. The festival is widely celebrated with all traditional fervour in Bihar, Jharkhand and Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The festival involves performing several rituals and following strict fasting for 36 hours by devotees. Known for the discipline and dedication of Hindu devotees towards Chhath Maiya, some mistakes should be avoided during this festival. If not, then it can lead to negativity in your life. Renowned astrologer, Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal, hailing from Deoghar, lists down some of the dos and don’ts of this festival.
Astrologer Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal said that Chhath Mahaparva is considered to be the most important festival in North India. This year, Nahai Khay will be observed on November 5. It will be followed by Kharna Prasad on November 6, Sandhya Argh on November 7 and Argh to the Sunrise on November 8. Astrologers believe that Hindu devotees should avoid these mistakes during this festival.
No Shave
During the four days of the Chhath festival, one should not get hair and nails shaved.
Say no to tamasic food
If Chhath Vrat is observed in your house then it is fine. Even if it is not followed then you should not consume tamasic food at all during Chhath Mahaparva. It can lead to negativity in your life. It is also advised to avoid touching untouchable things during Chhath.
No bed
During the Chhath festival, the fasting person is prohibited from sleeping on the bed. People who are fasting during Chhath Puja should sleep on the floor or on a mat for the entire four-day festival.
New Clothes
Purity and hygiene are paramount during the Chhath festival. During this festival, one should not wear a cloth again without washing it. While performing the rituals of Chhath Puja, one should wear new, traditional, and simple clothing, typically in bright colours. Black, as it is considered inauspicious, should be strictly avoided.

Earthen stove
During the great festival of Chhath, the person fasting should not cook food on gas. They should always cook food on an earthen stove.
