Telangana govt Diwali gift: DA for govt staff & houses for poor

HYDERABAD: The state cabinet chaired by chief minister A Revanth Reddy Saturday decided to release one (of the five) pending dearness allowance (DA) to govt employees, teachers, workers, and pensioners.

It will cost Rs 3,000 crore to the state exchequer. Additionally, the cabinet decided to start sanctioning 3,500 Indiramma housing units per assembly constituency from Diwali.

Though the state govt is under severe financial stress, the cabinet decided to give one DA and Indiramma houses as a Diwali gift to govt employees and the homeless poor, revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar said at a post ca binet briefing late on Saturday night.

Sharing briefly the decisions approved at the five-hour-long cabinet meeting, they said the foundation for Indiramma houses might start a day after Diwali, as it would be ‘amavasya’ on the festival day.

However, DA would be released before the festival, which is on Oct 31. The cabinet also decided that the survey of all castes and communities being taken up by the BC Commission, along with the planning department as the nodal agency, should be completed by Nov 30.

Over 80,000 staff (enumerators) drawn from various departments and corporations, and another 10,000 supervisors would start going house to house to collect details from Nov 4 or 5, by which time they would be trained on how to collect, register, and compile data.

The cabinet also approved repairs, expansion, and development of existing and new roads under the purview of panchayat raj and rural development, and roads and buildings departments.

This is estimated to cost Rs 28,000 crore for 17,000 km of roads and is targeted to be completed in the next four years in a privatepublic partnership mode. A high-level committee would be constituted to prepare the detailed project report.

It was also decided to take up a project to remove silt from all major and medium reservoirs, with a pilot project in the Kadem project in Nirmal district. Remaining reservoirs would be taken up for desilting in a phased manner.

The cabinet approved the expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail second phase project on six corridor totalling 76.4 km at a cost of Rs 24,269 crore.

The project will be imp- lemented in PPP mode as a state and central govt joint venture. The detailed project report was approved by the cabinet and will be submitted to the central govt for its approval and funding as part of the JV.

The cabinet approved the transfer of govt employees in three categories: spouse cases, health grounds, and mutual transfers, as employees demanded that GO 317 of the previous govt effected transfers in an unscientific way. Likewise, GO 46 affected employees will be rendered justice in postings.
