Maharashtra Polls: CM Eknath Shinde, His Deputy Ajit Pawar File Nomination Papers

The last date for filing of nomination papers is October 29. Maharashtra will go to Assembly polls on November 20.

Several top leaders in Maharashtra, including Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will file their nominations for the single-phased Assembly Elections on Monday.

The last date for the filing of nominations is Tuesday and various leaders across parties are scheduled to file their nomination papers today.

The Assembly polls in the state will be held on November 20 and the counting of votes will be done on November 23, along with those of Jharkhand which goes to polls on November 13 and 20.

Top leaders to file nominations:

Eknath Shinde: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde filed the nomination papers from Kopri-Pachpakhadi. His name was announced in the first list of candidates by Shiv Sena last week. He will be up against Shiv Sena UBT’s Kedar Dighe. Shinde is the three-time MLA from the constituency.

Ajit Pawar: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has been fielded from Baramati where he will face his nephew and Sharad Pawar’s grandson, Yugendra Pawar, who is the NCP-SP candidate. The constituency is all set to witness the Pawar vs Pawar contest again after the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in which Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra was defeated by Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule. The NCP chief filed his nomination papers today.

Amit Thackeray: MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s son Amit Thackeray has entered the fray from the Mahim constituency of Mumbai. Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena has fielded its candidate Sada Sarwankar from the seat, which has drawn discord within the ruling Mahayuti. Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar has urged Shinde to withdraw Sarwankar’s candidacy. Raj Thackeray had extended unconditional support for the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls to “make Modi PM again”.

Yugendra Pawar: NCP-SP candidate from Baramati Yugendra Pawar filed his nomination today in the presence of Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule. He will lock horns with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

Vijay Wadettiwar: Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar has been fielded once again from the Bramhapuri constituency where he will file the nomination papers today. He is a two-time MLA from the seat.

Prithviraj Chavan: Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan has been given a ticket from Karad South constituency in the Satara district again, where he will file his nomination papers today. He is a former chief minister of the state and a sitting MLA from the Karad South seat.

Rohit Pawar: NCP-SP leader Rohit Pawar will file his nomination papers from Karjat Jamkhed today. He is the sitting MLA from the seat.

Nitesh Rane: BJP leader Nitesh Rane has been fielded from Kankavli constituency and will file his nominations today. He is the son of former Maharashtra chief minister Narayan Rane.

In the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP secured 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, and Congress 44. In the 2014 polls, the BJP won 122 seats, Shiv Sena 63, and Congress 42.
