Rajinikanth revealed that he had asked Siva to write a period drama for him but it seems like it landed in Suriya’s kitty.
Tamil superstar Rajinikanth revealed that Kanguva was originally written for him but later landed in Suriya’s doorstep. The actor, who participated in the Kanguva music launch via a video message, revealed that he had asked director Siva to write a period drama for him. The Jailer star said that Siva might have written the script after his nudge but various factors might have led to Suriya getting the role. Rajinikanth added he has no qualms about it.

“While working with Sive in Annaatthey, I asked him to come up with a historical subject for me, and I think he came up with Kanguva. However, it should have gone through some change and must have gone to Suriya. But that’s alright. I hope he will come up with something else for me,” Rajinikanth said at the Kanguva music launch.
He then showered love for Suriya. Rajinikanth was approached by Suriya’s father Shivakumar to be the guest of the audio launch but the actor couldn’t. However, to honour the request of his dear friend, he sent a video wishing Suriya. “Shivakumar is a gentleman, and a lion’s kid can’t be a cat. So, Suriya is also like his father. I wish the film to become a huge success,” he said.
Meanwhile, Suriya also spoke about returning to the big screen after a break. While he was seen in Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bhim, both films were released on the OTT. Kanguva also marked Suriya’s comeback film after three years. Opening about returning after a break, Suriya said, “It’s been 27 years, and you all know that I have had many ups and downs. But for Suriyan (Sun) to rise, it has to set first. I am glad, I have had falls. Or else, I wouldn’t have had a great comeback. Even in archery, you have to pull the arrow back before propelling it forward to hit the target. Kanguva will do that.”
