SynthID Text available to all
On October 24, “We’re open-sourcing our SynthID Text watermarking tool. Available freely to developers and businesses, it will help them identify their AI-generated content,” Google wrote in a post on X. But what is SynthID Text and what importance does it hold? Well SynthID Text is a tool which can help you identify any form of AI generated content. Moreover, SynthID Text has a technology that lets developers watermark and detect text written by generative AI models.

So how do you get the tool? Currently, the SynthID Text can be downloaded from the AI platform Hugging Face. You can also get it from Google’s updated Responsible GenAI Toolkit. In addition to this, Google said that SynthID Text has been integrated with its Gemini models and can provide you top quality service. The watermark tool also works even if any AI-generated text has been modified or paraphrased. For example, you get content featuring a deep fake video of your favorite star promoting any product. Sometimes, such videos are being used for fraudulent activities like money laundering, email phishing and more. So, in order to stop these SynthID Text will show you that the video is AI-powered.
However, there are some limitations in the tool, as said by the company. SynthID Text cannot perform well with short text. Also, if any AI-generated text is written by translating other languages, then it can’t identify the text. For example if someone translates a hindi content to bengali with the help of AI, then the tool won’t be able to identify that.

With the rising AI-powered scams, many organizations are taking actions to stop them. Well, Google is not the only company to bring a watermark system to identify AI-generated content. OpenAI has also been working on such tools for years. However, the tools did not get launched for several technical glitches and internal issues.
When it comes to bringing such developed tools, India seems to be still at a nascent stage. On the other hand other countries like China’s government have already introduced mandatory watermarking of AI-generated content.
