Indian cricket team have become the first side in the 147-year-old history of Test cricket to smash 100 sixes in the format in one year.
Rohit Sharma’s Team India have achieved an incredible feat ahead of the second Test against New Zealand which gets underway at the MCA Stadium in Pune from Thursday. No team in the 147-year history of Test cricket have managed to achieve this record.
Indian cricket team is the only side which has managed to hit 100 sixes in Test cricket in just one year. Team India achieved this feat during their eight-wicket loss to New Zealand in the first Test at Bengaluru last week.
In the second innings of the Bengaluru, Team India hit 10 sixes with Rishabh Pant leading the way with 5 sixes during his 99 off 105 balls followed by 3 sixes by Sarfaraz Khan during his knock of 150 off 195 balls. Captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli also hit one six each.

In 2024, the leading six-hitter for India in Test cricket is opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The Rajasthan Royals batter has already hammered 29 sixes in just 9 Test matches while scoring 977 runs.
He is followed by another youngster – Shubman Gill, who has hit 16 sixes in 8 matches even after missed the 1st Test vs New Zealand due to injury. Following Jaiswal and Gill, we have the Indian captain Rohit, who has hit 11 sixes in 9 matches while wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has already hit 9 sixes in just 3 Tests this year.

Youngster Sarfaraz Khan, who hit his maiden Test ton in Bengaluru, has smashed 8 sixes in 4 Tests this year while all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also has 8 sixes from 8 Tests in 2024. Stand-in wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel has also managed 7 sixes in just 3 Tests in 2024.
Meanwhile, skipper Rohit Sharma harped on the fact that Team India need to be extra careful with Rishabh Pant, since he is coming back into the side after a major car accident in 2022. “He’s had a massive operation on his leg, so we all know what he went through. It’s just to be a little careful about where he is at and what he is to us. Even when he was batting, he was not comfortably running. He was trying to only put the ball in the stands,” Rohit said after the 1st Test in Bengaluru.
