New Delhi: The Income Tax Department is preparing to launch a revamped e-filing system, the ITR E-Filing Portal 3.0. The newly launched portal is designed to make tax filing easier and more efficient. As part of Project IEC 3.0, the new portal will replace the existing system and introduce advanced features. According to an internal circular dated October 8, 2024, the current portal, known as IEC 2.0, will soon be phased out. While the new platform will retain all the services offered by its predecessor, it will bring enhancements to ensure smoother and more secure filing of income tax returns (ITRs).

What Will Change With IEC 3.0?
The new system will continue to allow users to electronically file ITRs, submit statutory forms, and access other tax-related services. The Centralised Processing Centre (CPC) will remain responsible for processing returns through the portal. Additionally, tax officers will continue using a dedicated Back-Office (BO) portal to access filing data and processing information.
The focus of IEC 3.0 is on delivering a faster and more user-friendly experience. The department aims to improve operational efficiency and ensure a seamless interaction between taxpayers and tax officers.
