Speaking to the audience, Hirani revealed that he is juggling multiple projects related to Munna Bhai. “I have five half-finished scripts for Munna Bhai. I spent six months on a script, reach the interval, and it just wouldn’t go beyond that. There is a Munna Bhai LLB, Munna Bhai Chal Base, Munna Bhai Chale Amreeka, and more,” shared the Dunki filmmaker, as he elaborated on the biggest challenge of crafting another Munna Bhai story. “The most important factor is that the next instalment has to get better than the previous films. But now, I have a unique idea. Of course, over the course of 100 years of cinema, everything has been said. But yeah, I am working on that idea.”

Hirani brought humor to the conversation when discussing the pressure to make the third Munna Bhai movie. “I think Sanju might just come home and threaten me to get done with the next. He really wants to do another Munna Bhai film.” He later emphasized that he is “seriously” considering moving forward with the next Munna Bhai film.

The Munna Bhai franchise is one of the most iconic series in Indian cinema, blending humor, social commentary, and heartwarming storytelling. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the series kicked off in 2003 with Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., starring Sanjay Dutt as the titular Munna Bhai and Arshad Warsi as his loyal sidekick, Circuit. The film revolves around Munna, a Mumbai underworld don who pretends to be a doctor to fulfill his father’s dreams, only to find himself in a medical college where his unconventional ways change lives. With its fresh approach, the film struck a chord with audiences, becoming a massive hit and earning critical acclaim.

The success of the first film led to the 2006 sequel, Lage Raho Munna Bhai. This time, Munna Bhai takes on the role of a radio caller inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi—popularizing the term “Gandhigiri.” The film cleverly infused Gandhian philosophy with modern-day issues, creating a cultural phenomenon that transcended the big screen. Lage Raho Munna Bhai was not just a commercial success but also had a significant social impact, inspiring viewers to adopt Gandhian principles of non-violence and truth.

Hirani’s impressive filmography includes hits like Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, 3 Idiots, PK, Sanju, and Dunki. Notably, he has maintained a spotless record at the box office, with no flops to his name. His latest release was the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dunki in 2023. Currently, Hirani is working on a streaming series featuring Vikrant Massey, but he has yet to announce his next film project.
