Mumbai Metro update: Metro lines 2A and 7 get WhatsApp-based ticketing service – Know how to book tickets with it

Metro Line 2A connects Andheri West to Dahisar via the New Link Road, while Line 7 runs from Andheri East to Dahisar on Western Express Highway.

The Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) on Friday introduced an eco-friendly, WhatsApp-based ticketing service for passengers on Metro lines 2A and 7 in Mumbai, according to an official statement.

Metro Line 2A connects Andheri West to Dahisar via the New Link Road, while Line 7 runs from Andheri East to Dahisar on Western Express Highway. Both lines, launched in April 2022, cater to commuters in the north-western part of the city.

Announcing the launch of the service, the MMMOCL said that through the new service, commuters will be able to purchase tickets directly through WhatsApp. This would eliminate the need to buy paper tickets.

Mumbai Metro: How to purchase tickets via WhatsApp?

In order to purchase tickets through WhatsApp, commuters will need to send ‘Hi’ to 8652635500 or scan the QR code at stations to purchase tickets via a conversational interface.

“The Whatsapp-based ticketing system is expected to drive digital ticketing adoption, streamline commuter journeys, and offer an eco-friendly alternative to paper tickets,” the release stated.

Over 200,000 passengers utilise Metro lines 2A and 7 daily. Recently, these lines achieved a record ridership of 292,000 passengers in a single day.

Sanjay Mukherjee, the metropolitan commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), stated that the WhatsApp ticketing feature will help decrease queues at ticket counters and offer a smoother travel experience for commuters.

Mukherjee said that as of now, about 62 per cent of the people use QR tickets, 3 per cent use mobile QR tickets and 35 per cent use the NCMC card.
